The kitchen really is the new family room in North Carolina
You might call Linda Arnold and her trio of daughters close-knit. Indeed, the three girls help Linda run her store, Southern Home & Kitchen, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this summer.
An unconventional hybrid of a kitchenware shop, gift boutique, and cooking
school, Southern Home & Kitchen
was Linda’s brainchild when she and daughter Jane Wylie relocated from
Fredricksburg, Md. to be closer to the
rest of the family in Winston-Salem, N.C. Linda had owned a Monkee’s franchise in Maryland but had always had a love for decorating and entertaining. Using some of her favorite stores as inspiration, she came up with the idea of a half kitchenware, half home décor concept. Jane, who worked as a manager at Linda’s Monkee’s shop, helped with the business plan and the opening of the store.
Linda’s two other daughters are also instrumental in the business: Anne worked part-time at the store initially, planning events and helping to set up a cooking class program, and now she is even more involved as a manager. And the third sister, who is a lawyer, lends her expertise in all things legal.
