Keep ’em guessing:
Fun impulse items enhance the game day fashion, such as small gadgets for kids, key chains, Popsockets, earbuds, Carolina watches, wine glasses, books and stress relief toys. There are cards and gifts with a purpose such as BLO Vintage whistle jewelry and Home T-shirts (which support muscular dystrophy).
How to buy:
“I do a complete walk-through at Market before I write any orders. New vendors
and products keep things fresh, and I don’t want to miss anything.”
She might take a college-age buyer to give her new perspectives on what’s trending, like camouflage, ripped/torn jeans, and vintage-style jewelry with a twist. And she listens to her customers.
She takes risks. “I wasn’t certain about adding Under Armour jerseys, because you had to buy in large quantities, but they sold out quickly.”
Keep it lively:
“We change displays almost daily, so that customers see what’s here in new ways. Every time we move a HOBO bag, it sells. We’ll put an outfit together to give
customers ideas and we wear
our merchandise, because things look different on a person than on the
rack,” says Meredith. The balance of merchandise is drawing college-age customers, alums and general shoppers
of all ages. “Repeat customers are my favorite. When someone comes in for one thing and leaves with two or three items, you know you’re doing something right.” ■
